PERSON CENTRED PLANNING
Person Centred Planning (PCP) may be described as a way of discovering how a person wants to live their life and what is required to make that possible.
The aim of good planning is to result in positive changes in people’s lives and services. Person Centred Planning (PCP) takes the person as its primary focus. PCP was developed because people with disabilities often find it difficult to get the kinds of basic services, opportunities and experiences most people take for granted and even if they do they are required to somehow fit into someone else’s idea of what this should be like and how they should act. Services may often need to change and do things in new ways, if plans are going to be put into practice.
Person Centred Planning seeks to craft a vision for a person’s life as part of their local community and broader mainstream of life and seeks to describe the actions needed to move it in that direction. It is about citizenship, inclusion in family, community and the mainstream life and self-determination.
